The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that severe cold wave conditions may persist in different parts of Rajasthan in the next two days.

“Due to prevailing light wind and high moisture in lower tropospheric levels, very likely to occur over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and many parts of West Uttar Pradesh and isolated parts of North Rajasthan during next 24 hours,” the IMD bulletin said. Dense to very dense fog is likely to continue. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be severe cold and dense fog in North India on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve as well. At the same time, chill has increased in Bihar due to blowing of westerly winds.

According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature between 3-7 degrees was recorded in areas of Delhi, Rajasthan, Western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. In Delhi, where the mercury fell by 3 degree Celsius on Tuesday, Churu in Rajasthan recorded a temperature of 0.5 degree Celsius. Even today, dense fog remained in many areas. There is a possibility of dense fog in Jammu-Kashmir, Assam and Odisha. Dense fog enveloped most parts of the national capital on Wednesday morning, reducing visibility to 50 meters in some areas. Road and rail traffic was affected due to low visibility.

According to IMD, ‘very dense fog’ when visibility is between zero and 50 metres, ‘dense fog’ between 51 meters and 200 metres, ‘moderate fog’ between 201 meters and 500 meters and ‘moderate fog’ between 501 and 1,000 metres. But ‘light fog’ is considered. At the same time, cold wave is declared in the plains when the minimum temperature reaches four degrees Celsius. Cold wave is declared even when the minimum temperature is 10 degrees Celsius or less and is 4.5 degrees below normal. A ‘severe’ cold wave is declared when the minimum temperature is two degrees Celsius or below normal by 6.4 degrees Celsius.
