The Supreme Court has sentenced fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya to four months in the contempt case. Along with this a fine of two thousand rupees has also been imposed. The court also sentenced him to two months of additional imprisonment for non-payment of fine. Apart from this, 40 million dollars transferred abroad were also asked to be paid in 4 weeks.

The top court had convicted Mallya of contempt of court for transferring $40 million to his children in violation of the court’s order. Mallya was convicted in 2017 of defying court orders for not giving accurate details of assets. The Supreme Court has also rejected the review petition filed by Mallya on this decision of the court. On February 10, the Supreme Court had given Vijay Mallya a final opportunity of two weeks to appear in person or through a lawyer in the contempt case against him.
