US Warning in Pakistan: Terrorist attack may happen in Pakistan’s capital, America alerts embassy personnel

Islamabad: The US Embassy in Islamabad on Sunday warned its staff of a possible threat to American citizens at a top hotel in the Pakistani capital. In fact, the city is on high alert after a suicide attack two days ago. A police officer was killed and 10 others were injured in the attack. The embassy said in a security alert that the US government is aware of information that unidentified individuals may be planning an attack on American citizens at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad during their vacation.

Through the advisory, US workers are prohibited from traveling to the popular hotel during the holidays. The US Embassy has asked all personnel to avoid unnecessary travel to Islamabad on holidays. Notably, a suicide bomber targeted the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad in September 2008, in one of the deadliest such attacks in the capital.
