The Code of Criminal Procedure (Uttar Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2022 was passed by voice vote in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Friday. In this amendment bill, a provision has been made not to grant anticipatory bail in the case of rape of minor girls and women.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna on Friday moved the House to pass the Code of Criminal Procedure (Uttar Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2022. Due to the majority of the ruling members in favor of the bill, Speaker of the Assembly Satish Mahana announced to pass it.

On Friday, members of the main opposition Samajwadi Party and its ally RLD staged a walkout for the entire day. Congress leader Aradhana Mishra proposed to refer this bill to the Select Committee, but due to opposition from the members of the ruling party, her proposal fell.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Khanna told the House about the bill that in this amendment bill, a provision has been made to not grant anticipatory bail to the cases of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and those accused of molesting women.

He said that by not getting anticipatory bail in sexual offenses of boys, daughters and women, the chances of the accused destroying the evidence would be less. Also, the victim or his witnesses cannot be intimidated or harassed by the accused.
