Taipei. A strong earthquake struck once again on Sunday in the self-governing island of Taiwan, off the east coast of China. A 7.2 magnitude earthquake has been felt in the city of Yujing, Taiwan. Earthquake tremors of such a strong intensity have occurred at around 12:14 pm Indian time. A strong 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck 85 km east of Yujing, Taiwan, on Sunday, the US Geological Survey said. A two-storey residential building collapsed near the epicenter of the quake, according to Taiwanese media. Tremors were also felt at the northern end of the island in the capital Taipei. The USGS said the quake came just a day after a 6.5-magnitude quake.

After the earthquake in Taiwan, Japan’s Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami alert. Weather officials have urged residents of these areas to stay away from the beach. It is said that this island does not issue a tsunami warning until the magnitude of the earthquake is 7.0. The agency said the earliest waves arrived near Yonaguni, Japan’s westernmost island, about 250 kilometers (150 miles) northeast of Taitung. These waves can reach Taiwan at 4:10 pm.

Significantly, the land of Taiwan is often shaken by earthquakes, because this area is between the junction of two tectonic plates. On Saturday, there was news of an earthquake in the eastern coastal area of Taiwan. However, there was no loss of life or property due to this earthquake of 6.6 magnitude. According to Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau, the magnitude of the quake was 6.4, while its depth was 7.3 km.
