Railways launches updated app for live tracking of Mumbai local trains

Central Railway has launched an updated app for live-tracking of trains on mobile application to avoid delays and save time of passengers. The GPS-enabled system app, which was launched on Wednesday, will help commuters to track their train status in real time. For now this facility is available only on Central Railway lines as GPS tagging of all locomotives on this line has been completed.

Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway said, “Live tracking of local trains has been provided in the Yatri app. This app is useful for daily local commuters to get train running information. Live Location Tracking will help travelers plan their journey better and move easier. This facility is also available if a person travels daily by a train and wants to set an alert about it.”

Central Railway has made its official “Yatri App” with the help of a private firm. As per the feature description page of the app, it provides information about passenger amenities, real-time updated timetables and live train alerts at stations. The app will also be updated in different phases.

The data will keep refreshing after every 15 seconds and if it doesn’t then you can refresh the app and see a train icon on the rail map showing the live location of the train. This facility will be available exclusively on the Belapur-Kharkopar route for some initial days.

Till now, Mumbai local trains were tracked through m-indicator app, but now Indian Railways is going to provide digital services to passengers for more convenient travel. Users of the app will also be able to suggest new features and register their complaints on the app. Around 4.5 lakh passengers have downloaded the app in the last 2 days.
