Pakistan: Communal violence is spreading rapidly in Pakistan, TTP and TLP are responsible, Shias are most at risk

hear the news

Communal violence is spreading rapidly across Pakistan due to two groups of fast growing Sunni Muslims, Deobandi Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) representing Barelvis.

According to the latest study published in Islam Khabar by the Brussels-based International Crisis Group (ICG), it is expected to increase further in the current political acrimony and economic tension. The report titled ‘A New Era of Communal Violence in Pakistan’ states that the TLP is recognized as a political party by the Election Commission of Pakistan despite its violent history. It could increase political influence and threaten mainstream political parties during a possible election in the summer of 2023.

The report draws on security experts’ old conclusion that the TTP, TLP and other terror groups are offshoots of the Islamic State Province of Khorasan, which is rapidly increasing influence in the tribal areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan. These two factions are quite different and are responsible for the worst communal bloodshed in the country. The Muslim minorities, especially the Shias, are most at risk from these. They can be put to death at any time by alleging blasphemy for political gains. According to the report, due to increasing communal violence, domestic terrorism is also taking root throughout Pakistan and the region.
