New Delhi:

The Delhi government on Saturday cautioned people against driving old vehicles in the national capital, saying such vehicles would be impounded immediately. The Delhi government said that driving old vehicles would violate the orders of the Supreme Court. In a 2018 order, the Supreme Court had banned the plying of diesel and petrol vehicles which are 10 years and 15 years old respectively in Delhi. He had said that vehicles violating the order would be confiscated.

A statement issued by the Transport Department said, “It has come to notice that despite these orders, such vehicles are still found plying and parked on the roads of Delhi. The Enforcement Wing of the Transport Department is running a strong enforcement drive to seize such vehicles if they are found driving or parked on the roads of Delhi.

“The vehicles which are more than 15 years old after being seized shall be immediately handed over to the authorized ‘scraper’ for demolition,” it said.

It advised people not to drive or park such vehicles in any public place. “If anyone possesses such a vehicle, he is directed to contact the authorized ‘scraper’ of the Transport Department and get the same disposed of immediately,” the statement said.
