Hourly minimum wage for unorganized workers
Gig workers are independent workers in the eyes of the law, said Professor Balaji Parthasarathy, principal investigator for the Fairwork team. That is, they are not entitled to labor rights like unorganized workers. To improve their working conditions, it has to be ensured that they get at least the minimum wage per hour. Their demands should be heard through collective action. They should be considered by accepting it.
Platforms fail to implement minimum wage
The report said, despite repeated platforms of labor organizations stressing the importance of a steady income for workers, they have failed to publicly implement and operate a minimum wage policy. However, Big Basket, Flipkart, Urban Company have implemented some policies of paying minimum wages per hour.
