New Delhi: A special NIA court in Kerala has convicted three locals for providing aid to global terror outfit Islamic State Iraq and Syria (ISIS). A senior official said a court in Ernakulam on Tuesday convicted Midlaj, Abdul Razak and Hamsa under different sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). All of them are residents of Kannur in Kerala.

An NIA spokesperson said those who have been convicted were members of a banned terror outfit and were trying to travel outside India to join ISIS. The court will pronounce its verdict on the period of punishment on July 15, he said.

The NIA had re-registered the FIR registered by the Kerala Police in October 2017 and started investigation in the matter. After this, the NIA had filed a charge sheet in April 2018 against four people, out of which three are mentioned above.
