Chennai. The customs department seized gold worth more than Rs 80 lakh at the airport in Chennai. More than a kilogram of this gold was kept hidden in the handle of the wipe. In this connection, the Customs Department has arrested a sweeper on Saturday. According to the information, the Customs Department had received information that gold worth more than one kilogram is hidden at the airport. This gold has been kept for smuggling.

While investigating this information, the team reached the accused. It is said that the arrested employee was trying to smuggle gold through the transit area when he was apprehended with the help of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel. The employee had also hidden some gold in his shoes. He has also been recovered.

The accused was smuggling gold worth 1.9 kg
In total, 1.9 kg gold worth Rs 83.86 lakh was recovered and the accused has been arrested under relevant sections of the Customs Act, 1962, officials said.
