Talking to reporters in the Vidhan Bhawan complex here, Raut claimed, “The Karni Sena has warned that it will demolish the Vijay Stambh at Koregaon Bhima on the day of bravery celebrated on January 1.”
He said, “Maharashtra is a peaceful state and such provocation by some organizations is not right. The people of Maharashtra will not tolerate this.
Raut said, “The organizations are instigating those who believe in Bhima and are trying to create a rift in the society. If they do something like this, they will get a befitting reply.
Significantly, according to the Dalit narrative, casteism was won in the Battle of Koregaon Bhima in 1818, as a British army contingent consisting of a large number of Dalit Mahar soldiers defeated the Peshwa army of the Maratha kingdom. On January 1, 1818, the Vijay Smarak was established by the British government in memory of the soldiers who died in the Koregaon Bhima war.
