The filing of three new cases against SP leader Azam Khan by the UP government and the latest action against his Jauhar University in Rampur and the alleged acquisition has reached the Supreme Court.
Appearing for Azam Khan before the bench of CJI UU Lalit, his lawyer Kapil Sibal mentioned and urged for hearing of the matter. Sibal said that there were already 87 cases against Azam Khan and now three more have been imposed. He barely got bail. Now new cases have been made.
Sibal said that from getting the Municipal Corporation machine in Jauhar University, many other things are being said. Due to the action on the university, the education of the children has also been disrupted. After hearing the arguments of senior advocate Sibal, the Supreme Court agreed to hear Azam Khan’s petition on Thursday.
The petition states that the Uttar Pradesh government is reportedly in the process of taking over the university. Other unfair actions of the government against the university have also been challenged. A bench of CJI Uday Umesh Lalit, Justice S Ravindra Bhat and Justice JB Pardiwala on Wednesday took note of Sibal’s submissions that the state government was taking various actions against the private university. To this, the CJI said that the matter should be listed before the appropriate bench on Thursday.
Sibal said Khan was facing several criminal and other cases registered by the state government and other authorities and now the university has been taken over. He said that a wall of the university has also been demolished. Muhammad Ali Jauhar University is a private university established in 2006 by a trust and Khan is its Chancellor.
