Allahabad University: Ruckus, vandalism and arson in the university after students were beaten up, six injured including student leader

After the beating of students in Allahabad University, there was fierce ruckus on Monday. Furious mob started arson with stone pelting, vandalism. Dozens of vehicles were damaged along with the doors and windows of the offices. Along with burning two bikes and generator, the canteen was also set on fire. It is alleged that the security guards opened fire along with beating the students. In this, the student leader and five students of the university were injured.

The uproar started with indecency from former student leader and Congress state secretary Vivekanand Pathak. He was on his way to the SBI branch located near Union Hall. It is alleged that the security guards stopped them from going inside. When there was a tussle about this, the matter was settled on the intervention of an assistant professor and Vivekananda went inside. It is alleged that after some time a large number of guards armed with sticks and iron rods and weapons came and started beating the students.

Unarmed students were chased and beaten. It is alleged that firing was also done on the protest. On knowing this, a large number of students gathered and pelted stones to chase away the guards. After this the ruckus started. The students went ahead while pelting stones and broke the doors and windows of many offices including the controller of examination, registrar. On being chased by the police, eight vehicles of the teachers and employees standing in the stand towards the Central Library were damaged.

Along with this, three cars parked in the premises and one each on Union Bhawan Road and Bank Road were also vandalised. After this, two bikes parked near the Controller of Examinations and Registrar’s office were burnt. The canteen and generator located near the proctor’s office were also set on fire. On information, Commissioner Ramit Sharma, Additional Commissioner Akash Kulhari, DM Sanjay Khatri reached the spot with a force of one and a half dozen police stations and somehow controlled the situation.

Apart from this, MA student Abhishek Yadav alleges that he was injured due to shrapnel in the firing. University completely closed for a day

On the other hand, due to the uproar, the IVI administration has decided to keep the university completely closed on 20 December.
