Taliban imposed many restrictions on women
The Taliban have re-occupied Afghanistan after the withdrawal of US forces in August last year. Taliban leaders promised a liberal regime soon after seizing power. However, there is no leniency in the actions of the Taliban government. They have imposed many restrictions on women including education.
ban on studies in colleges
Last week, the Taliban government banned women from attending colleges and universities across Afghanistan. It is getting widespread criticism. In a letter to all government and private universities, Neda Mohammad Nadeem, the Taliban government’s minister of higher education, said, “You are all informed to immediately implement the order suspending girls’ education until further notice.”
Earlier, the decree was issued for women to have separate doors of movement in colleges, to study in classrooms only by elderly professors or female professors. Secondary schooling for girls was already banned in Afghanistan.
